New" Christianity?


This year's International Christian Retail Show is going strong. If you are a profit for Je$u$ then this is the place to be. Sadly, it is also a parade of the absurd. Case in point. Here is a picture of Empowerment Press' booth at the show. Their slogan is "It's the New Christianity! Now we do the impossible."
What exactly does this mean?
Is this like an auto manufacturer releasing new model cars. 'New' Christians now come with GPS and satellite radio as a standard option?
Well...Empowerment Press also happens to be the publisher of the book the "2 Minute Miracle: Releasing God's Power, Protection and Prosperity with Spoken Blessings". We love the smell of 'Snake Oil' in the morning.

THE COMMANDMENT THAT TIME MADE OPTIONAL


Isn't it interesting how many Christians today will fight to keep the 10 Commandments posted in the schools and court houses, but when it comes right down to it, many of these same Christians don't even believe that the 10 commandments are for them to follow as a rule of life? Go figure.

Here's one of those surprising things you learn when you study church history. You read the words of Charles Spurgeon talking about "profane Sabbath-breakers", and the Puritans talking about Sabbath-breaking in the same sentence as lying, lusting, and other moral failings. You read many of the greatest theologians and seminary professors essentially saying: "of course we believe in the Sabbath, it is one of the 10 commandments". Now fast forward a hundred years or two, and you find modern Christians, usually with a fraction as much bible knowledge, who are so sure of themselves that the Sabbath is no longer for today. So who's right, the new Christians, or the old ones?
As you can see by my recent participation in a thread on Ingrid's blog, this is a debate where I happen to come out on the side of the extreme minority, today. Statistically speaking, it's likely that even you (the Old Truth reader) disagrees with me on this topic. But it probably wouldn't have been that way in the past. In his booklet on the 10 Commandments, AW Pink diagnoses our present Christian era: "The fact that any man can escape the observance of [the 4th] Commandment is a sad reflection upon our modern social order, and shows how far we have departed from the Divine plan and ideal". And in Pink's writing The Redeemer's Return he wrote: "There is such an awful 'falling away' from the observance of the Holy Sabbath". He went on to say:
"All around us are people who are worldly-minded, money-lovers, pleasure-seekers, Sabbath-breakers, yet who think all is well with them because they have 'accepted Christ as their personal Savior'. In their aspiration, conversation, and recreation, there is practically nothing to differentiate them from those who make no profession at all. Neither in their home-life nor social-life is there anything except empty pretensions to distinguish them from others. The fear of God is not upon them, the commands of God have no authority over them, the holiness of God has no attraction for them." --AW Pink, Gospel Preaching Commanded
Chances are, if you've benefited from a quotation or book excerpt that I've ever posted here on Old Truth, the one that I quoted was probably a Sabbatarian. That's likely true of your favorite hymn writers and authors of commentaries as well.
You see, in many past times and places, the Christian Sabbath was a wonderful thing to behold. It was said of one town in England during the Puritan era: "On the Lord's Day all disorder became quite banished out of the town. As you passed along the streets on the Sabbath morning, you might hear a hundred households singing psalms at their family worship". It reminds me of the scripture that my pastor's father based a book on, which he entitled Call The Sabbath a Delight.
So why have today's Christians rejected the Sabbath?
In the aforementioned book, Walter Chantry explains the reason why many today have jettisoned the 4th Commandment. In his chapter which demonstrates that even the New Testament teaches the Sabbath, Chantry responds to the common thinking that it was "just for the Jews", saying:
"Such a response calls our attention to one of the great difficulties which arises when modern evangelicals discuss the bible and it's teaching. In the United States, the Bible School movement and the Scofield Bible have spread far and wide a system of thought called 'dispensationalism'. Dispensationalism is a theology which distorts one's understanding of Scripture and places blinders on Bible students. ... It is dispensationalism which has given the popular impression that a Christian may dismiss Old Testament teaching or Commandments unless it is repeated in the New Testament. ..."
Dispensationalism, of course is rather new in church history, and as you know, I am very suspicious of new ways to interpret the bible. There are many great dispensationalists that I respect (such as John MacArthur), but here is one area where I depart with their teaching in favor of the 'old truth'.
By now you probably have questions (or even protests) that you are itching to comment on. This should make for a some useful and friendly debate in the comments below, but before we get into the details, let me make a couple of things clear and set some ground rules:
Sabbatarians do NOT believe that those highly detailed rules (the ceremonial law) in the Old Testament are still for Christians today, however the 10 Commandments are not in the ceremonial law.
The Sabbath pre-dates the 10 Commandments, as the bible establishes this pattern: "for in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day".
Let's save "what Christians should and should not do on the Sabbath" for another post. In this post I am simply interested in discussing whether the 10 commandments are still for Christians to follow.
Sabbatarians do NOT believe that Christians are justified (saved) by following the 10 Commandments. With the Holy Spirit's help we endeavor to follow them because we want to please the God who has saved us, though we know we will not do so perfectly in this life.
Be careful not to make the mistake of thinking that this is an easy issue to decide against. Consider whether it's an arrogant thing to say "all of those dead guys were wrong and I am right". Maybe you ARE right, but just to make sure, do some reading on this topic; one book that I especially recommend is The Lord's Day, by Joseph Pipa. And finally, resist the temptation to think that it's "fine for you but not for me". Either it's 100% right for everyone to obey this commandment, or it's equally right that none of us should. Could murder (or another commandment) be fine for one person but not another?

JESUS THE EASY BUTTON????????


This 'Christian' t-shirt manufacturer wants the the world to know that if you're looking for a solution to 'Life's Problems' Jesus is your easy answer. That's funny. The Bible doesn't say anything about Jesus solving 'Life's Problems'. Hmmm...maybe we'd better recheck the good book....let's see here.
For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost. - Luke 19:10
There's nothing about 'Life's Problems' in that verse. Let's check another.
For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly. - Rom. 5:6
Nope. Not there.
...but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us. - Rom. 5:8
Not there either. Hmmm...let's try one more.
For Christ also suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, that he might bring us to God, -1Pet. 3:18
We couldn't find anything about Jesus solving 'Life's Problems' but we did find a bunch of verses that talk about Jesus dying for our sins. But, sins aren't just 'problems'. They're outright evil and Jesus' solution for our sins was to die on the cross. There was nothing easy about that.
Maybe the folks that made this t-shirt are reading a different Bible.

“It is the will of God.” How easily these words fall from the lips or flow from the pen. How difficult it is to penetrate exactly what they mean. Few concepts in theology generate more confusion than the will of God.One problem we face is rooted in the multifaceted way in which the term will functions in biblical expressions. The Bible uses the expression “will of God” in various ways. Augustine once remarked, “In some sense, God wills everything that happens.” The immediate question raised by this comment is, In what sense? Some distinctions made by theologians include the following:THE DECRETIVE WILL OF GODThis is sometimes described as the sovereign efficacious will, by which God brings to pass whatever He pleases by His divine decree. An example of this may be seen in God’s work of creation. When God said, “Let there be light,” He issued a divine imperative. He exercised His sovereign efficacious will. It was impossible for the light not to appear. The decretive will can have no other effect, no other consequence than what God sovereignly commands. THE PRECEPTIVE WILL OF GODThe preceptive will of God relates to the revealed commandments of God’s published law. When God commands us not to steal, this “decree” does not carry with it the immediate necessity of consequence. Where it was not possible for the light to refuse to shine in creation, it is possible for us to refuse to obey this command. We may have the power to disobey the precept. We do not have the power to disobey it with impunity. Nor can we annul it by our disregard. His law remains intact whether we obey it or disobey it. Yet we still observe the acute difference between the light’s obedience to God’s creative decree and our disobedience to God’s moral, preceptive decree. How do we account for this?A common way to resolve this conundrum is by appeal to a distinction between the sovereign will of God and His permissive will.This distinction between God’s sovereign will and His permissive will is fraught with peril, and it tends to generate untold confusion.In ordinary language the term permission suggests some sort of positive sanction. To say that God “allows” or “permits” evil does not mean that He sanctions it in the sense that He grants approval to it. It is easy to discern that God never permits sin in the sense that He sanctions it in His creatures.What is usually meant by divine permission is that God simply lets it happen. That is, He does not directly intervene to prevent its happening. Here is where grave danger lurks. Some theologies view this drama as if God were impotent to do anything about human sin. This view makes man sovereign, not God. God is reduced to the role of spectator. This ghastly view is not merely a defective view of theism; it is unvarnished atheism.Whatever God “permits” He sovereignly and efficaciously wills to permit. If I have a choice to sin or not sin, God also has a choice in the matter. He always has the ability and the authority to stop me from exercising my will.In the treachery perpetrated by Joseph’s brothers, it was said, “You meant it for evil; God meant it for good.” God’s good will was served through the bad will of Joseph’s brothers. Their acts are judged together with their intentions, and they were rightly judged by God to be evil. That God brings good out of evil only underscores the power and the excellence of His sovereign decretive will.

A SUPERNATURAL FAITH

A Supernatural Faith by R.C. Sproul

“The God hypothesis is no longer necessary to explain the origin of the universe or the development of human life.” This assertion was at the very heart of the movement that took place in the eighteenth century that we call the Enlightenment. God’s existence was seen as no longer necessary because He had been supplanted by the “science” of that period that explained the universe in terms of spontaneous generation. Here we see an example of pseudoscience supplanting sound philosophy and theology.Added to this, we have the agnosticism of the titanic philosopher Immanuel Kant, who argued that it is impossible for science or philosophy to acquire knowledge of the metaphysical realm of God. It was declared that all knowledge must be restricted to the realm of the natural. With the combination of Kant’s agnosticism and the hypothesis of the Enlightenment, the door was open wide to a thoroughgoing philosophy of naturalism. This philosophy captured in its wake the academic theologians of Europe in the nineteenth century. Out of this came nineteenth-century liberalism with its militant anti-supernatural perspective. The liberalism of that era denied all of the supernatural elements of the Christian faith, including the virgin birth of Jesus, His miracles, His atoning death, and His resurrection. The impact of liberalism and neo-liberalism on the church left it basically as a worldly, nature-bound religion that sought refuge in a humanitarian social agenda. This is the approach to Christianity that has all but completely captured many of today’s mainline churches throughout the world.However, in the last few decades, we have witnessed a comeback of sorts of the supernatural. Yet this increasing interest in the supernatural has been driven in large measure by a fascination with the occult. People are now interested in demons, witches, spiritualists, and other occultic phenomena.The Christianity of the Bible is a religion that is uncompromisingly supernatural. If we take away the supernatural, we take away Christianity. At the heart of the worldview of both Testaments is the idea that the realm of nature is created by One who transcends that nature. With the renewed interest in the supernatural that comes with the occult, we must be ever vigilant to make sure that whatever understanding we have of the supernatural is an understanding that is informed by the Bible and not by paganism. Sheer naturalism is paganism with a vengeance, but so is the occult. What we need is an understanding of the supernatural that comes to us from the supernatural, from the Author of the supernatural, who reveals to us in His Word the content of the supernatural realm – so that our understanding of angels, or demons, or of spiritual beings comes from God’s self-revelation and not from human speculation, neo-gnostic magic, or other forms of pagan intrusions. Again, we must insist that without the supernatural, Christianity loses its very heart, and this writer cannot understand why anybody would attach any great significance to Christianity at all once it’s been stripped of its supernatural elements.

Youth Specialties is a publishing company that should be avoided at all costs. Not only do they offer works by Emergent guru Tony Jones, they've recently created the MTV Video Music Awards Questions and Bible Study.
Instructions include how to view the top four videos and have a party to ask questions of the invitees. Collectively, the videos display abuse, violence, drugs, and sexual content.
Here are a couple of comments in this Youth Specialties "Bible Study" concerning Snoop Dogg’s video Drop It Like It’s Hot:
Just for grins…pick up a Bible and randomly select a Proverb and see if your group can say it in “izzle” speak...
..The images in the video show some of the “perks” that go along with great wealth. If you had unlimited money at your disposal what would be the first “perk” you would by (sic)? It’s okay to think selfishly for this question.
This is NOT a Bible Study nor is this type of stuff appropriate for church or for children.

More on the Doctrines of Grace


The Healer By Chris Rosebrough

I recently watched an expose of a popular TBN preacher/healer. My feelings we're so raw afterward that I decided to write a piece of fiction.

The arena was packed. It was hot and there was an eager electricity in the air. Everyone knew that something big was going to happen tonight. You could just feel it.
For the last few weeks billboards and signs had been placed all around town announcing the arrival of The Healer. He was going to hold a service of faith, hope and miracles. Everyone, knew about it. Nearly everyone planned to be there.
The Healer had a television show that broadcast all over the world via satellite. He wore expensive suits, had a private jet, slick hair and beautiful teeth.
The Healer always prayed with power and authority. On each show he would receive messages from God telling him about people who were being healed of cancer, pneumonia and other diseases. He was anointed of God and now he was coming to town.
As the arena filled, a careful observer would have noticed that all the people who arrived in wheelchairs or those hooked up to hospital-like support machines were ushered to a special place in the back of the arena. This section was just for them. This section was as far from the stage as you could get. Those in this section thought that The Healer had special plans for them. He did. But it wasn't what they were thinking.
The arena lights went out. There was a collective gasp. The anticipation reached unbearable levels. Then there was a single light on a door. Then you could see him. The crowd erupted in elation. The Healer was there. He was really there! He marched to the stage like a prize fighter. The service had begun.
First there was singing and praying. Then there were words of power and wisdom. Then an offering was taken. The buckets were overflowing. Then The Healer looked to heaven as if to say, “Thank you Father”. He announced that the Spirit was upon him to heal. He called out healings. A woman with cancer was told that her cancer was gone. A man with AIDS heard the words that he came to hear, “AIDS has left your body”. A woman was told to throw down her cane because her arthritis was no more.
Friends and neighbors were signing, clapping their hands, praising God and weeping. But those in the wheel-chairs in the back of the arena sat in silence. They were alone. No miracles were being announced for them. No healings were taking place in their section of the arena.
Now people were being ushered on to the stage. They were claiming that they had been healed. A woman had energy to dance again, a man said he felt the cancer leave his body. The arena was now in a frenzy. The Healer began touching people and they were falling to the ground. The spirit was moving in power. Everyone could feel it, everyone except those in the back of the arena. Some of them were beginning to pack up and leave. God obviously had no plans to touch them that night. You could see the pain and disappointment on their faces. Those who had brought them had tears in their eyes.
The Healer now began waving his coat at people in the crowd. Whole sections in the arena fell to the ground as if slain by an unseen spirit. The show was building to a crescendo no one knew how much longer this could go on.
Without warning, the lights went out.
The women let out shrieks.
There was murmured silence.
The Healer told everyone not to worry. But his microphone was dead.
There was scrambling on stage.
Then from the back of the arena came a sound. It was a woman praising the Lord and shouting at the top her lungs, “I can walk! I can walk!”
There was a light in the back of the arena. No one had ever seen a light like this.
Then there was another voice. A man could be heard shouting, “I can see! I can see!”
There were sounds of astonishment. There were voices of praise.
The Light spoke with a deep and rich voice filled with love and justice. The whole arena heard him say to a woman in a portable hospital bed, “Daughter your sins are forgiven. Rise and take your bed and go home.” She got up!
A boy with shriveled hands was told to stretch them out and he did. The light grew brighter. The Light looked like a Son of Man. He touched the people in the back of the arena. He kissed them. He loved them. He healed them.
But, The Healer was angry with The Light. Who was this person who’d stolen his thunder? The Healer's microphone clicked back on and a few of the stage lights flickered back to life. The Healer shouted at The Light with an angry voice. “How dare you come in here and disrupt my service. I am an anointed healer of God.”
The Light ignored The Healer as he put his hands on a small child who was breathing on a respirator. The machine vanished and the girl took a deep breath. Her eyes brightened and she threw her arms around The Light and kissed His beard.
The Healer’s voice was now shrill, “You have no business being here. I command you to leave this place at once!”
The Light turned to look at The Healer. The Healer had a sinking feeling in his stomach. The Light began walking toward the stage. The crowd parted effortlessly before him. You could still hear the people in the back of the arena singing and praising God.
The Light approached the stage and stopped three rows back. His eyes were locked with The Healer’s. The Healer was nervous and sweating. The Healer's voice cracked as he shouted, “In the Name of Jesus Christ I demand to know who you are!”
The Light answered, “I am.”
The Healer was thrown back. He landed on the drum set with a crash. A symbol rolled off the stage and into the crowd.
The Healer stood up and shook himself off. His cheek was bleeding. Fire was in his eyes.
He marched back to the edge of the stage. Lifted his finger as if he were going to scold a child. He was about to say something but then he noticed that his hand was snowy white and leprous. In a panic he hastily looked at his other hand. Dread over took him when he discovered that it was leprous too. The Healer let out a shriek.
The crowd gasped.
The Light vanished.
The Healer ran off the stage, wailing.

When Relevance Repels People


Picking churches used to be so much easier. Back in the day you'd look for a church that preached christ-centered and cross-focused expository Bible sermons where you connected with the people. You would look for a church that taught the timeless truths of the Christian faith in a way that transcended the culture.
But, now that so many of the church's have given up trying to preach Expository Sermons and are instead trying to be relevant to non-Christians and the world, picking a church has become VERY complicated.
First you have to find a church that has a music style that you can connect with. Once you've got that list down, you have to find one the preaches on topics that are relevant for you in your situation in life. If you're single you don't want to go to a church that preaches a lot about marriage tips. If you wealthy you don't want to go to a church that preaches about the virtues of being poor in spirit. If your a college student then churches that preach about financial success and getting ahead at work would probably bore you to tears. Or as the cartoon above illustrates if a church is preaching about movies that don't fit your favorite genre then you'll probably find a different church to go to.

Stalwart’s of the Faith-William Tyndale

“Master Tyndale, remaining in prison, was proffered an advocate and a procurator; the which he refused, saying that he would make answer for himself. He had so preached to them who had him in charge, and such as was there conversant with him in the Castle that they reported of him, that if he were not a good Christian man, they knew not whom they might take to be one.
At last, after much reasoning, when no reason would serve, although he deserved no death, he was condemned by virtue of the emperor’s decree, made in the assembly at Augsburg. Brought forth to the place of execution, he was tied to the stake, strangled by the hangman, and afterwards consumed with fire, at the town of Vilvorde, A.D. 1536; crying at the stake with a fervent zeal, and a loud voice, “Lord! open the king of England’s eyes.”
Such was the power of his doctrine, and the sincerity of his life, that during the time of his imprisonment (which endured a year and a half), he converted, it is said, his keeper, the keeper’s daughter, and others of his household.
As touching his translation of the New Testament, because his enemies did so much carp at it, pretending it to be full of heresies, he wrote to John Frith, as followeth, “I call God to record against the day we shall appear before our Lord Jesus, that I never altered one syllable of God’s Word against my conscience, nor would do this day, if all that is in earth, whether it be honor, pleasure, or riches, might be given me.”

The Lord puts forth His healing hand in divine election

It is divine election which distinguishes among men. We have not the least hesitation to admit what Paul strenuously maintains, that all, without exception, are depraved and given over to wickedness; but at the same time we add, that through the mercy of God all do not continue in wickedness. Therefore, while we all labor naturally under the same disease, those only recover health to whom the Lord is pleased to put forth his healing hand. The others whom, in just judgment, he passes over, pine and rot away till they are consumed. And this is the only reason why some persevere to the end, and others, after beginning their course, fall away. Perseverance is the gift of God, which he does not lavish promiscuously on all, but imparts to whom he pleases. If it is asked how the difference arises — why some steadily persevere, and others prove deficient in steadfastness, we can give no other reason than that the Lord, by his mighty power, strengthens and sustains the former, so that they perish not, while he does not furnish the same assistance to the latter, but leaves them to be monuments of instability. Todd Friel-13 Evangelistic Phrases That Produce False Conversions


I love Todd Friel. The Way of the Master co-host is a great guy, a very faithful preacher of the Gospel, and a dear brother in Christ. I have had the honor of having Todd on our radio program and shared several conversations with him as well, and he is as true as they come. Churches divide over carpet color, building additions and budgets. In the meantime, our fellow church members are going to hell by the boat load.
A.W. Tozer said, “It is my opinion that tens of thousands of people, if not millions, have been brought into some kind of religious experience by accepting Christ, and they have not been saved.”
D. James Kennedy said, “The vast majority of people who are members of churches in America today are not Christians. I say that without the slightest contradiction. I base it on empirical evidence of twenty-four years of examining thousands of people.”
Friend, we argue over so many petty things. May I suggest we have lost sight of the most important debate of all, “What is salvation?” My theology teaches that salvation happens when a man repents and places his trust in Jesus Christ (Acts 20:21).
I would like to present thirteen ways that we have re-defined how a person becomes a true convert. Have we done this intentionally? Certainly not. We have simply created lingo that has a grain of truth in Scripture, but it is so open to interpretation that the un-converted understand it in ways that lead to false conversions.
1. Make Jesus your Lord and Savior. We cannot make Jesus our Lord and Savior, He is our Lord and Savior. We are living in rebellion to Him and He commands us to repent and trust Him.
2. Ask Jesus into your heart. Does Jesus come into our hearts? Yes He does. The question is, “How does He get in there?” It is not by simply asking Him in; it is by repentance and faith.
3. Just believe in Jesus. The demons believe and they tremble. We must repent and trust.
4. You have a God-shaped hole in your heart and only Jesus can fill it. We have far more than a hole that needs to be filled so we can feel complete; we have a wretched, deceitful, sinful heart that needs cleansing. Repentance and faith applies the blood of the lamb for that cleansing.
5. Accept Jesus. Whoa. We need to accept Jesus? This is entirely backward. We need Jesus to accept us–and He will, if we repent and trust.
6. Make a decision for Jesus. Decisional regeneration puts man in the driver’s seat of salvation. When we repent and trust, Jesus decides to save us. That puts Him in the driver’s seat…where He demands.
7. It is easy to believe. While the formula of repentance and faith sounds simple, a complete surrendering of self in repentance is anything but easy. It’s hard.
8. God loves you and has a wonderful plan for your life. The only promises for the convert are trials, temptation and persecution. If that is how you define a wonderful life, fine. Otherwise we must command all men everywhere to repent and trust.
9. Come to Jesus just as you are. We should come to Jesus just as the sinners we are, but He also expects a broken heart and contrite spirit demonstrated in repentance and faith.
10. Come to Jesus and you will receive forgiveness of sins and ________________ (fill in the blank with money, health, a healed marriage). Jesus didn’t promise healed marriages; in fact He promised broken homes because we would divide when one member repents and trusts.
11. Come to Jesus and experience love, joy, peace. Do we get the fruit of the Spirit upon conversion? Yes. But if we come seeking the gifts and not the giver, we will receive neither. Instead, we must repent and trust.
12. Jesus is the missing piece. Um, no, the God of the universe is not the missing piece, He demands that He is the center of our lives when we repent and trust.
13. Jesus is better than fame and fortune. That is an understatement, and frankly, it is insulting. Saying Jesus is better than money is like saying that a steak dinner is better than eating a dung hill. He defies comparison and we trivialize the Son of God. Instead, we should be pleading with all men everywhere to repent and trust.
If I showed up at your door with a can of grapefruit juice and a roll of paper towels and offered to change your oil, you would say, “No thanks.” If we wouldn’t let someone mess with our car using the wrong method, why do we allow the Gospel to be presented so ambiguously?
Would you let a doctor operate on your child who was “sort of” accurate? The salvation of men is far more important than an appendix.
I beg you to consider how you share the Gospel. You and I know what we are talking about when we use these phrases, but do the unregenerate? Is it possible that we have so many backsliders today because they never slid forward in the first place? Is it because they were never told that they must repent and trust?
If we are willing to debate shag verse plush in the fellowship hall, shouldn’t we be more concerned about an issue that has eternal consequences?

Rolling Stones Bible Study?


The Rolling Stones is a band known for its drug use, sexual conquests and their rock-star lifestyle. The one thing you can say with confidence is that none of the members of the Rolling Stones can be held up as role models of the Christian life. Apparently these facts don't matter to the folks over at Standard Publishing. They've just developed a new Small Group Study Curriculum based on the Songs of the Rolling Stones called "Tuning Into God". (They didn't stop there. They also released Small Group Study Curriculum based on songs by the Eagles and the Beatles also.)
Maybe it is just us, but we think that Christians should be studying their BIBLES not songs written by worldly, secular, unregenerate pagans. Furthermore, HOW ON EARTH can Standard Publishing name a Small Group Study "Tuning Into God" and then base it on songs written by people are not "Tuned Into God" but are instead tuned into the world?!
If Standard Publishing was really interested in 'Tuning Into God' they'd stop mixing Bible studies with with songs from pagans who are dedicated to "Sex Drugs and Rock & Roll".
Maybe for an encore they could publish the Marilyn Manson Small Group Study.

Christianized" Yoga?


Christians have no business engaging in Eastern Religious practices. This is syncretism. Here's what Hindu's say about Yoga:
"Hinduism is the soul of Yoga based as it is on Hindu scripture and developed by Hindu sages. Yoga opens up new and more refined states of mind, and to understand them, one needs to believe in and understand the Hindu way of looking at God..A Christian trying to adapt these practices will likely disrupt their own beliefs." (Sannyasin Arumugaswami, managing editor of Hinduism Today.)
Here's what scripture has to say on the matter.
2Cor. 6:14 Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers. For what partnership has righteousness with lawlessness? Or what fellowship has light with darkness? 15 What accord has Christ with Belial? Or what portion does a believer share with an unbeliever? 16 What agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; as God said, “I will make my dwelling among them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. 17 Therefore go out from their midst, and be separate from them, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; then I will welcome you, 18 and I will be a father to you, and you shall be sons and daughters to me, says the Lord Almighty.”

Both Christian & Muslim


The Rev. Ann Holmes Redding is both an episcopal priest and a practicing Muslim. She doesn't seem to find any problem with reconciling the completely contradictory truth claims of both religions. The reason for this is because she doesn't believe either to be literally true. She's 'spiritualized' them. According to the Seattle Times Redding's personally held doctrines are very unique:
She believes the Trinity is an idea about God and cannot be taken literally.
She does not believe Jesus and God are the same, but rather that God is more than Jesus.
She believes Jesus is the son of God insofar as all humans are the children of God, and that Jesus is divine, just as all humans are divine — because God dwells in all humans.
What makes Jesus unique, she believes, is that out of all humans, he most embodied being filled with God and identifying completely with God's will.
She does believe that Jesus died on the cross and was resurrected, and acknowledges those beliefs conflict with the teachings of the Quran. "That's something I'll find a challenge the rest of my life," she said.
She considers Jesus her savior. At times of despair, because she knows Jesus suffered and overcame suffering, "he has connected me with God," she said.
That's not to say she couldn't develop as deep a relationship with Mohammed. "I'm still getting to know him," she said.
So let's tally this up. Redding holds to a doctrine of God that is contrary to scripture. She holds to a doctrine of Jesus that is contrary to scripture. She has a different gospel other than the one laid out for us in the scripture. AND she is in a spiritual relationship with Mohammed.
The Bible has a word for people like Pastrix Redding. That word is APOSTATE.
Redding is NOT a Christian. She should be thrown out of the church, barred from taking the Lord's Supper and told to repent.

Our Father By RC Sproul


The next time you attend a prayer meeting, pay close attention to the manner in which individuals address God. Invariably, the form of address will be something like this, “Our dear heavenly Father,” “Father,” “Father God,” or some other form of reference to God as Father. What is the significance of this? It would seem that the instructions of our Lord in giving the model prayer, “The Lord’s Prayer,” is emulated by our propensity for addressing God as Father. Since Jesus said, “When you pray, say, ‘Our Father,’” that form of address has become the virtual standard form of Christian prayer. Because this form of prayer is used so frequently, we often take for granted its astonishing significance. The German scholar Joachim Jeremias has argued that in almost every prayer that Jesus utters in the New Testament, He addresses God as Father. Jeremias notes that this represents a radical departure from Jewish custom and tradition. Though Jewish people were given a lengthy number of appropriate titles for God in personal prayer, significantly absent from the approved list was the title “Father.” God has only one child, His only-begotten Son, the monogençs, which restricts this filial relationship to Christ. We do not have the natural right to call God “Father.” That right is bestowed upon us only through God’s gracious work of adoption. This is an extraordinary privilege, that those who are in Christ now have the right to address God in such a personal, intimate, filial term as “Father.” Therefore, we ought never to take for granted this unspeakable privilege bestowed upon us by God’s grace. We note in the Lord’s Prayer that Jesus instructs us that now when we pray, we are to refer to God as “Our Father.” Again the “ourness” of this relationship is grounded in the unique ministry of Jesus by which, through adoption, He is our elder brother and He gives to us those privileges that by nature belong only to Him. Now, by adopting us, He says that we may regard God, not only as His Father, but as our Father.The first petition of the Lord’s Prayer is found in the words, “Hallowed be Thy Name.” The opening address, “Our Father, who art in Heaven,” is simply that, an address. From that address, Jesus instructs His disciples to offer certain petitions in prayer. The first and chief of those petitions is that we pray that the name of God will be hallowed. This is also extraordinary in that as the prayer continues, we ask that the will of God be done on earth as it is in heaven and that His kingdom would come on earth as it is in heaven. Both of these desires can only be met when and if the God of the kingdom of heaven and of earth is treated with supreme reverence, honor, and adoration. When we fail to observe the third commandment, when we fail to honor God as God, and use His name as a curse word, or in a flippant, careless manner, we fail to fulfill this first petition. Perhaps nothing is more commonplace in our culture than the expression that comes from people’s lips on many occasions, when they say simply, “Oh, my God.” This careless reference to God indicates how far removed our culture is from fulfilling the petition of the Lord’s Prayer. It should be a priority for the church and for every individual Christian to make sure that the way in which we speak of God is a way that communicates respect, awe, adoration, and reverence. How we use the name of God reveals more clearly than any creed we ever confess our deepest attitudes towards the God of the sacred name.

Today's Missions Decline Due To Narcissism

It is hard to find Christians who are willing to pay full price for discipleship. In these self-absorbed, truth resistant times, many people make decisions for Christ without ever intending to offer their entire lives for His service. This unwillingness to make sacrifices is harmful to the church in many ways, but it is especially injurious to the cause of world missions. Missionary recruiters find it increasingly difficult to identify people who are willing to devote themselves to a lifetime of Christian ministry, especially if it promises to be difficult or dangerous. Despite the popularity of short-term missions trips, the number of career Missionaries is down, and some experts fear a critical shortage in the coming decades. This is a sign that something is seriously wrong. A genuine passion for God's glory inevitably leads to firm commitment to reach the lost -- those who do not have a personal saving relationship with Jesus Christ, without which will be commended to spend eternity in hell.
Where this compassionate commitment is lacking, there must be a general lack of spiritual vitality.
Various attempts have been made to explain the decline of missions in America, but the basic issue is discipleship. A failure to count the cost of following Christ inevitably hinders one's commitment to the global work of His gospel. The vital connection between missions and discipleship is explained by two veteran missionary doctors -- Tom and Cynthia Hale -- wrote, in a passing letter entitled: "Disciples Needed for the Twenty-First Century":
Our major concern relates to the level of discipleship we have observed during our travels: we fear it is too shallow. ...During the past generation, the worldwide evangelical church has experienced unprecedented growth; in terms of the plain numbers coming to Christ, nothing like it has been seen before. But in the midst of this good news, there are troubling signs that many of these new believers are continuing to follow Christ primarily for what they can receive, rather than for what they can give. (ie: Narcissism) ...
We have...a lingering sense that some...rapidly growing churches are placing more emphasis on drawing people in than on sending people out. They have been placing more emphasis on the blessings of following Christ than on the cost. The "hard" teachings are downplayed; it's as if there is a fear of scaring people away. ...
The question is often asked: "How can we recruit more long term missionaries?" The answer, we believe, is for churches to place greater emphasis on discipling their members, on challenging their members to deny self, to forsake all and to follow Christ with no conditions or limitations--in other words, to "sell out" to Christ.
If this analysis is correct, as I believe it is, then the future of missions depends on the church's recovery of radical Christian discipleship.

The Worse You Play The Greater Number of People That Will Be Saved


Scratch Golfers are selfish. Golfers who practice in order to improve their game and shoot lower scores are carnal Christians at best. But, duffers and whiffers and shankers are Godly evangelists. At least that's what we've got to believe now that 'Gospel Golf Balls' are available.
Who cares if these golf balls are sub-standard when compared to the Pro V1's and the Callaway HX's? The important feature of these golf balls is the evangelistic Bible verse. That means that every time you lose one of these balls some unsuspecting heathen has the potential for finding one and getting saved. In fact the online catalog which sells the Gospel Golf Balls brags:
"Now when you lose a golf ball you will be sharing the Good News of Jesus Christ!"
What they fail to mention is that every time you buy a sleeve of these balls their making a tidy profit.
As for me and my foursome, we'll stick with the pagan golf balls and do our gospel sharing in person.
The point that I want to make is let's not hide behind track's and golf balls. If Jesus is in your heart due to you being drawn to the Son by the Father then let's share that with the world from our lips. Out of a persons mouth will flow what is in there heart.

One thing you’ll quickly notice if you make even a casual study of historical theology is this: the history of the church is a long chronicle of doctrinal development that runs from one profound controversy to the next.
In one sense it is sad that the history of the church is so marred by doctrinal conflicts, but in another sense that is precisely what the apostles anticipated. Even while the New Testament was still being written, the church was contending with serious heresies and dangerous false teachers who seemed to spring up everywhere. This was so much a universal problem that Paul made it one of the qualifications of every elder that he be strong in doctrine and able to refute those who contradict (Titus 1:9). Ruth Graham, Wife of Evangelist Billy Graham, Dies at 87


MONTREAT, N.C. (FOX News)— Ruth Graham, who surrendered dreams of missionary work in Tibet to marry a suitor who became the world’s most renowned evangelist, died Thursday. She was 87.
The wife of Billy Graham died at 5:05 p.m. at her home at Little Piney Cove, surrounded by her husband and all five of their children, said a statement released by family spokesman Larry Ross.
“Ruth was my life partner, and we were called by God as a team,” Billy Graham said in a statement. “No one else could have borne the load that she carried. She was a vital and integral part of our ministry, and my work through the years would have been impossible without her encouragement and support.
“I am so grateful to the Lord that He gave me Ruth, and especially for these last few years we’ve had in the mountains together. We’ve rekindled the romance of our youth, and my love for her continued to grow deeper every day. I will miss her terribly, and look forward even more to the day I can join her in Heaven.”
Ruth Graham has been bedridden for months with degenerative osteoarthritis of the back and neck and underwent treatment for pneumonia two weeks ago. At her request, and in consultation with her family, she had stopped receiving nutrients through a feeding tube for the last few days, Ross said.

The ultimate in 'seeker sensitive' services has arrived and it is drawing crowds so large that they're having to turn people away. It is called Erotic Church and according to the news story:
'A female dancer dances in a skin coloured stocking in the middle of the church in front of the altar. She crawls about on the floor and wraps herself in a hanging down white cloth. Is this a blasphemous provocation, a scoffing at the Christian religion?
'No it is only one of the items on the agenda of the Protestant Church Assembly. The six-hundred-year-old church, the Church of the Carthusians in the south of Cologne has become the stage for an erotic church service. Nearly one thousand interested people waited outside the door of the former monastery, despite a thunderstorm- but in the end there was only room for four hundred people...
'The vicar arrived in a black cassock and barefoot. He announced that eroticism and lust are not taboo areas pushed aside by God. In fact, "lust has to be lived out", said Armin Beuscher, who tempered his speech immediately, by saying, “we are of course today in this service only able to implement this in a limited manner”...
'The faithful were then asked to take part in an anointing ritual in which they should massage the forehead and hands of the person sitting next to them. McClure United Church in Edmonton, Canada is the latest church to join the ranks of those churches that have offered 'Clown-Led Worship'. Their service was sooooo unique and sooooo meaningful that it was covered by their local newspaper.
Whatever happened to reverence in the house of God?
Apparently that is long gone. It has been replaced with circus acts.
It makes us wonder. If Jesus were to show up to one of these services would he drive these clowns out with a whip? We think that Jesus may have to use another implement. If he used a whip people might mistake him for a lion tamer and think he was part of the act.
That old popular adage applies here, "You may feel like your pastor is a clown. But it is best if he doesn't dress up like one and confirm your fears."

But simply God’s people taking leave from the duties of their daily lives to humbly seek the Lord to bring revival, repentance, and reform to His church once again.
We need a new Reformation today beloved; we need another Great Awakening!

No Place for Truth

In understanding the times, we will think together critically and biblically and Christianly about important cultural and practical issues for today’s Christian. We’ll introduce you to some of the major issues in the church and the world, and family and………… [tape interruption]……and to live and think as a Christian. Tonight’s Understanding the Times is about David Wells’ well-known book, No Place for Truth.
David Wells’ No Place for Truth may have been the most important book about evangelicalism published in the 1990’s. For instance, reading it led Dr. James Montgomery Boice to draft The Cambridge Declaration and form The Alliance of Confessing Evangelicals. In Wells’ book, he expresses deep concern over the increasing theological void in evangelical churches. By that he means not simply that evangelical lay people and clergy are not as well-read theologically as their forebears, but that there is a growing attitude of disdain for theology, an impatience with rigorous and robust theological thinking, and a corresponding loss of the knowledge of and concern for historic biblical and confessional doctrine. These things are seen as irrelevant to life and ministry.
Wells believes that there is an audience condition in evangelicalism that almost prevents the very possibility of taking theology seriously, or doing it right. Wells says that he has watched with growing disbelief as the evangelical church has cheerfully plunged into an astounding illiteracy. This charge, he says, is evident not only in seminaries, but also in publications, churches, and pastors. It is a change so large and so encompassing that those who dissent from what is happening are easily dismissed as individuals who just can’t get along, or want to scruple over what is inconsequential, or who are not loyal, or who are in any case quite irrelevant.
Provocatively, however, Wells suggests that those who are most relevant to this world are those who are judged most irrelevant. Wells’ book is about how the audience, the evangelical audience in particular, and the condition of that audience (their mindset) affects the possibility of actually “doing” theology…thinking theologically, or speaking theologically to them.
Wells argues that theology is a knowledge that first and foremost belongs to the people of God, and the proper and primary audience for theology is therefore the church, not the learned guild. The purpose of theology, then, is not primarily to participate in high-powered academic conversation, but to nurture the people of God. So the theologian’s proper audience is the community of faith, since theologians profess to teach a knowledge received by faith and sustained by faith.
Wells argues that, rather than to professionals and methods, he looks for the recovery of the place of theology in a reformation in the way that Christian people go about their business of being Christian in the midst of the extraordinary changes that Modernity has wrought in our world. Wells states his thesis in his book this way: he says that theology happens in three places, or three worlds: the academy, the church, and middle-men—the academy (referring to schools, universities, seminaries, books, journals); the church; and then the middle-men (the academics and pastors who transfer the teachings from the academy to the church). But he says that the connection between these three worlds is now severed, and it is even breaking down within themselves. Wells says in effect that if we lose the ability to think like Christians about the world, then there ceases to be a reason to “do” theology in the pulpit or a classroom. It’s like writing books for people who cannot read.
He says that this situation in the church is a reflection of a broader theme in our culture. One effect of modernization has been to break the unity of human learning into highly segregated specializations, so rational absolutes by and large have been abandoned. The effect of secularization has been to marginalize God, making the absolute and transcendent irrelevant to daily life. The net result of this force in the church has been the triumph of diversity over unity; that is, our world, even our religious world, has become fragmented.
And the evangelical churches, too, have experienced these effects of Modernity. In this cultural context, with all the fragmentation of knowledge you might expect people in our society to believe less and less; but, surprisingly, Wells says, in fact they believe more and more. In fact, they’ll believe almost anything. And the same goes for the Christian churches.
In contrast, Wells calls himself a believer in the truth, and a disbeliever in the fabric of modern life, whereas, he says, evangelicals are believers in Modernity. They are anti-modern only across a narrow front, whereas he is anti-modern across the entire front. In other words, it is only when culture directly and obviously challenges Christianity that most evangelicals oppose it, and except in those instances evangelicals tend to view the culture as neutral, or even as a useful vehicle for conveying Christian truth.
However, culture is not neutral. It is laden with values and hidden influences. Because evangelicals believe in the innocence of modern culture they cannot believe in historic Protestant orthodoxy. But because Wells believes in historic Protestant orthodoxy, he cannot believe in Modernity. Wells suggests that evangelicalism is hampered by a pervasive worldliness, and is seeking to liberate itself from historic Christian orthodoxy, even when it does so in the name of biblical fidelity, or always reforming. Nevertheless, he says, it has not become more faithful to Scripture, but less.
Wells says there is less interest in the truth, less seriousness, less depth, less capacity to speak the word of God to our own generation in a way that offers an alternative to what our generation already thinks. Wells says his central purpose in this book is to explore why theology is disappearing. He is interested in the recovering of a theology that has a passion for truth, and which also articulates a historic Christian orthodoxy.

My Interview with Mark Driscoll By Mike Corley

I spent about 40 minutes talking with Mark Driscoll this week. My decision to interview Pastor Driscoll came about for a couple of reasons.
First, I am personally fascinated by the man and his ministry. Driscoll was very open in our discussion to say that he has totally disassociated himself from the Emergent Church and that in fact the leaders of that movement, in his words, “have nothing to do with me” theologically. My fascination stems from the fact that Mark and I are in agreement almost totally theologically, both of us upholding the reformed tradition. I will admit though, there are some areas involving methodology that still raises concerns for me.
Second, he has highly regarded by other men of God whom I respect greatly, such as John Piper, Mark Dever and C.J. Mahaney. Piper welcomed Driscoll to the most recent Desiring God conference; Mark Dever’s 9Marks website recently featured an article by Driscoll on narrative preaching, and I read recently where C.J. Mahaney visited Driscoll in Seattle and is very encouraging of their ministry there.
Thirdly, I did want to speak to the man myself and have the opportunity to ask him personally questions that I have been pondering since first learning of Driscoll and his ministry. While I am not endorsing the EC concept of “conversation” just for the sake of conversing, I did think it was a positive to establish a line of communication there.
As I said before and after the radio interview, there will be some who think I was too soft on Mark Driscoll, and there will be some who think I was to hard on him. Mark is a big boy and can obviously had either. But I personally found him to be very open and willing to admit his faults, failures and dependence on the Lord. Do I agree with everything he says or the ways he says it? No. But I am not as quick to rush to judgment in regards to the ministry of Mark Driscoll as I was before. Quite frankly I want to know and see more.
That is why I have requested the opportunity to travel to Seattle and visit Mars Hill myself and see first-hand what goes on there through the ministry of Mark Driscoll. I have also asked for such an opportunity at The Journey in St. Louis, Missouri. I want to go to these locations, see whats going on, write on what I see and hear, do some interviews and hopefully even do some live programs from there and at least try to understand some things.
I am not backing off of my concerns with the Emergent Church by no means. Yet it is my prayer that through all of this the Lord will help us, me, to better reach those in the emergent church movement, and everyone, with the Truth

Death-a State of Perfection

Death is not only no death for them, but is a kind of translation to a more glorious life, and is turned into a kind of resurrection from the dead. Death is a happy change to them, and a change that is by far more like a resurrection than a death. It is a change from a state of much sin and sorrow, and darkness, to a state of perfect light, and holiness and joy. When a saint dies, he awakes as it were, out of sleep. This life is a dull, lifeless state; there is but a little Spiritual life, and a great deal of deadness; there is but a little sight and a great deal of darkness; there is but a little sense and a great deal of stupidity and senselessness. But when a godly man dies, all this deadness and darkness, and stupidity and senselessness are gone forever, and he enters immediately into a state of perfect life, and perfect light, and activity and joyfulness. Ashamed of Christ's Word



Here is another sad example of a church that would rather preach about movies rather than God's word.
Connection Church in Kyle, Texas has decided to abandon the teaching of God's word and instead exegete the spiritual messages in this summer's movies. (Apparently the Bible's stories are too boring and inadequate for today's discriminating 'seeker' sooooo Connection Church decided they didn't need God's Word this summer.)
It is important to note that the lead Pastor of Connection Church is Cole Phillips and he is a church planting coach for Purpose Driven Planting. (Yep, he works for Rick Warren.) His bio says that he "is guiding other church leaders to start healthy, thriving churches." It is obvious that Cole's idea of a healthy, thriving church is much different than Jesus'. God's word commands pastors to 'preach the word'. Cole thinks he is exempt from that command.

Remember the words of our Lord in Mark 8:38:
"For whoever is ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation, of him will the Son of Man also be ashamed when he comes in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.”
Based upon the fact that Connection Church has separated itself from the preaching and teaching of God's Word, they should be referred to from here on out as 'Disconnection Church'. This is exactly the type of preaching that will keep people disconnected from Christ for all eternity.

Beware of Satan's devices

Remember how much needless trouble your vain fears have bought upon you formerly: "And hast feared continually because of the oppressor, as if he were ready to devour; and where is the fury of the oppressor?" He seemed ready to devour, yet you are not devoured. I have not bought upon you the thing that you feared; you have wasted your spirit, disordered your soul, and weakened your heads to no purpose: you might have all this while you enjoyed your peace, and possessed your soul in patience. And here, I cannot but observe a very deep policy of Satan in managing a design against the soul by these vain fears. I call them vain in reference to the frustration of them by Providence; but certainly they are not as vain as the end in which Satan aims by raising them; for herein he acts as soldiers do in the siege of a garrison, who to wear out the besieged by constant watchings, and thereby unfit them to make resistance when they storm it in earnest, every night rouse them with false alarms, which though they come to nothing yet remarkably answer the ultimate design of the enemy. Biblical Foreknowledge? (Part 2)

Last week we began to look at the Biblical concept of foreknowledge and tried to gain some understanding of what the idea means. We did this by defining the term and by giving specific examples from Scripture that help us in our understanding of the term.
It is important to reemphasize something I said last time but which may have gotten overlooked. One of the negative responses to the proper understanding of the term foreknowledge is that it essentially makes no difference between foreknowledge and predestination. The terms are similar but each has its own emphasis. “Foreknowledge” emphasizes God’s covenantal love for the one He has chosen, while “predestined” emphasizes His electing will. Together, these two concepts make up God’s gracious choice of believers to salvation in eternity past. They are like two sides of the same coin. I believe Wayne Grudem got it right when he said that foreknowledge means “according to God’s fatherly care for you before the world was made.”
My main goal throughout these two articles has been to explain that foreknowledge does not mean only “to know beforehand.” This week I would like to examine some further arguments that will help us to gain a proper understanding of the term “foreknowledge”. These arguments are not always drawn from any one passage in particular, but are taken from the whole of Scriptural teaching.
Theological Arguments
As one examines the passages that deal with God’s “foreknowledge” it becomes evident rather quickly that “foreknowledge” deals with individuals and not facts. The term never deals with God knowing something about someone. It always deals with the fact that God knew the person. Romans 8:29 says that God foreknew certain individuals. It is best to understand this to mean “those whom he long ago thought of in a saving relationship to himself.” (Grudem)
It is also important to recognize where the final authority for salvation rests. If God looks down the corridors of time with no intimate involvement and simply sees who will exercise faith and then chooses those who will choose Him, this leaves the ultimate authority for salvation with man. It makes God react to the decisions of men. This negates all of the Scriptural teaching that election is God’s gracious prerogative.
The Bible is saturated with the language of election, and all of it attributes the decision involved in election to God and not to man. In John 15:16 Jesus says, “You did not choose me, but I chose you. . . .” John 6:44 states that no one is able to respond to God unless the Father draws him to Himself. Scripture does not give final authority and sovereignty to man, but to God (1 Thess 1:4; John 13:18; Rom. 9:11; 15-16; Eph 2:10; Acts 13:48).
Scripture never teaches that our faith was the reason God chose us for salvation. Romans 9:11 says “for though the twins were not yet born and had not done anything good or bad, so that God’s purpose according to His choice would stand, not because of works but because of Him who calls.” Ephesians 1:5 says that our election was “according to the kind intention of His will”. The idea that our election is based on foreseen faith is strangely absent from Scripture. This is teaching that has been read into multiple passages to make a theological system work.
Next, one cannot come to the Arminian understanding of foreknowledge with a proper concept of faith and how men exercise it. The scriptural teaching concerning the nature of man is that man has fallen into sin and has turned his back on God (Gen. 3). Now, every person is born a sinner (Ps. 51:5). Being born into sin, we have no desire for God. In fact, the natural direction of man is to hate God and oppose everything He stands for (Rom. 3:9-20). Because of this, the Bible describes humans as dead in their sins (Eph. 2:1).
A dead person does not respond, he has no life in him and is not able to move one inch. For the Arminian view of foreknowledge to be correct, the Biblical teaching on the sinfulness of man must be altered. How can man respond in faith to God if he is dead in his sins? The simple answer is that he cannot. Faith is a gift of God (Eph. 2:8-9) and one cannot exercise it unless it has first been graciously given by the Lord.
Finally, let’s assume for a moment that foreknowledge only means prescience and that God really does elect those whom He sees will exercise faith. This means that God, who has a true knowledge of the future, has already seen exactly what will happen to people. This means that what God sees of them is absolutely certain to come to pass. So the destinies of men have already been determined. If they have not been determined by God, by what have they been determined? When we wind up in this position we end up trusting the fate of our lives to something outside of God.
My hope is that these articles have been beneficial to your understanding of the Biblical concept of foreknowledge. The doctrine of election and all the teaching that goes along with it is precious truth. It is vital to understand properly and when it is understood it certainly will incite the believer to praise our sovereign God.
Romans 11:33 “Oh, the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and unfathomable His ways!”

Encouragement for the Doubting Christian

Do you belong to that class of persons who really profess Christian faith and Christian obedience, and are you trying, however weakly, to follow Christ in the midst of an evil world?
I think I know something of what goes on in your heart. You sometimes feel that you will never persevere to the end, and will some day give up your profession of faith. You are sometimes tempted to write bitter things against yourself, and to believe that you have no grace at all.
I am afraid there are myriads of true Christians in this condition, who go trembling and doubting toward heaven. However, in spite of all their groans and doubts and fears, they do not turn back, but press on, though faint.
Now, my advice to all such persons is very simple. Pray every morning and evening of your life, "Lord, increase my faith." Cultivate the habit of fixing your eyes more simply on Jesus Christ, and try to know more of the fulness there is laid up in Him for every one of His believing people.
Do not be always pouring over the imperfections of your own heart, and dissecting your own sins. Look up! Look more to your risen Head in heaven, and try to realize more and more that the Lord Jesus not only died for you, but that He also rose again, and that He is ever living at God's right hand as your Priest, your advocate, and your Almighty Friend.
