Children's Section or Battle Ground By Rev. Charles J. Paul

Egyptology, Mythology, Vampire, Warrior, Wizardology, Wizards Handbook Etc. When you read some of these titles you would not expect to find them in the children's section of a book store.
But this is exactly what happened to my wife and I last week when we took our grandson who is six years old to Barnes and Noble.

I could not help but notice even as we entered the store there were advertisements of books about killing, demons, and just pure evil. It was as if good was gone and evil and darkness had taken over. Thinking however we would be safer in the children section, I was shocked to see a whole wall dedicated to these books.

I made my way over to the section to see that they were listed under the children's classic section, I myself did not see anything classical about these books. The first book I pulled off the shelf to see what was being poured into our children’s minds was the Warrior. As I skimmed through I could see it was a book that taught ancient warriors how to kill. The book's subtitle says it all, a “Warriors intention should be simply to grasp his sword and Die.”

If that was not bad enough I then turned my attention to a book titled Wizardology this was a book showing young children how to be a wizard, from the clothes needed, to your magical Dagger that you must have to cast spells and shed blood, that’s right telling a child it was a must that they had a dagger. This book goes on to explain putting spells on people and how you can live under the protection of your spells. Here is a quote from the book, now remember these words are going into the minds of children.

“If you are unshakable in your desire to learn wizardology, then in the absence of a wizard of flesh and blood, this book will offer you the assistance and encouragement you would receive at my hands were I standing before you as your Master. Merlin 1577 ‘’

If that were not enough then your child can move on to book two, the Wizard’s handbook. This book contains 24 lessons to move you on to be a full wizard, this book even made it to the #1 best seller list for the New York Times.

Well let's collect our thoughts for a moment. Let’s look at the facts about children.

1- They are impressionable.
2- They need guidance in a healthy way for good growth.
3- They act out a lot of what they see, hear and read.
4- Their young minds form a level of good and evil at a very young age. [in other words if they are exposed to deep levels of violence, death, and evil, they will then see nothing wrong with that as there minds grow and can act out more of what seems so normal to them.]
5- We know that scripture teaches us that we are all born into sin. And that includes our children, we do not grow into being a sinner. But what we need to do is pray for and teach our children the ways God has laid down for us to teach them. Exposing them to this garbage only throws fuel on an open fire of what is a sinful heart from birth.

After looking at some of the facts about children and then looking at some of the events that have taken place in the last 10 years,in events like Columbine the shooters had been exposed to violence from a young age in video games and then witchcraft through the game dungeons and dragons. If we stop and look at our schools today they are more like an Army base then a school. Kids must walk through metal detectors and police must patrol the halls. Why?

So when you look at our current situation why would we continue to expose our children to more and more evil and violence each year? Not even the children section is safe any more.

As I stood in the store looking at these books and then seeing all of the children in different sections, including my own grandson. I could not help but pray for God’s protection that a child is not started down the road of mass destruction because he or she was exposed to the many violent books in the children section of this store.

Parents take a stand watch your children and what they read and the games they play with. Take a stand, do what we did block your child from this evil and raise them up in the way of the Lord. Even if it means taking them out of that area and if they are exposed to it explain to them why they must stay away from it and just how dangerous it is. Do the same for these books and video games today as you would if your child were near an open flame and ready to be burned. Step in it is your duty as Parents and Grandparents.

Would that more parents would simply be parents- and that means sometimes telling your child they can't see, hear or read something, especially something so offensive to the Christian mindset. As a parent I can say this - let's do our duty! Act responsibly. "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it." (Proverbs 22:6)

It is really a sad situation when we have to be careful to let our children go into a children's section in a book store. We must be on guard! I, as a mother, am alarmed at what I see other kids doing, saying, and watching. I am cautious to keep my children away. I know the deadly consequences that can be reaped. Lord help us to guard our children's hearts and minds and direct them in Your ways.
